‘West Indies have freaking done it!!!!!’ – Fans react to West Indies incredible triumph against Australia at Gabba
Sensational Shamar Joseph’s heroics helped the West Indies to an incredible triumph at Brisbane’s iconic Gabba stadium. Joseph’s amazing first session spell helped the West Indies win their first Test match at the Gabba in 36 years. Shamar bowled a remarkable performance of 7/68 on Day 4 of the Test match.
West Indies defeated Australia by 8 runs in a final-wicket thriller on Day 4 of the series second Test match. This was the first time the West Indies had not lost a Test series on Australian territory in 31 years. It was all made possible by Shamar Joseph‘s brave performance in the first session of Day 4 of the Pink Ball Test match when he blasted through the Australian batting lineup.
Australia got into a lot of difficulties in the first session of Day 4 of the second Test match in Brisbane. Australia was 8 down for 187 runs after losing eight wickets in the first session at the historic Gabba.
On day 3 Shamar Joseph got hit on his toe by a yorker by Mitchell Starc. Later he was taken off the field by the physio. Shamar Joseph returned to match despite blistering pain in his feet. On Day 3, the West Indies board stated that he didn’t break his toe but suffered serious injuries as a result of the incident, casting doubt on his availability on Day 4.
For the first time, Australia lost a Pink Ball Test at home
On Day 4 Shamar bowled alongside Alzarri Joseph and had an immediate impression. His blistering pace and precise lines and lengths placed Australia in jeopardy. Australians struggled to deal with both pacers, and as previously indicated, lost six wickets in the morning session.
Shamar got wickets of Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins in the opening session of the day, putting Australia in deep difficulty. On Day 4, Steve Smith waged a one-man struggle and stayed undefeated at 91 runs while Australian batters collapsed around him.
This win against a powerful Aussies side will be remembered as the biggest win in the history of West Indies. This was also the first time Australia had lost a Pink Ball Test at home, as well as their first loss in the present World Test Championship Cycle.
