The Oval Invincibles took on Welsh Fire in the 5th match of the Hundred 2022. The match was held at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Welsh Fire called the coin right and opted to bowl. The start was provided by Will Jacks who was off to a rapid start. He slammed a sizzling 81 off just 45 balls, which included 7 boundaries and 4 sixes. He single-handedly shepherded the innings. Due to his knock, the Oval Invincibles could get to a fighting total of 158-5 in Hundred Balls.

Jason Roy, Sam Billings, and South African import Rilee Rossouw all struggled to get going on the pitch. Sam Curran played well and he made a quick knock of 26 runs and he took 23 deliveries to do so. Owing to his innings, Invincibles were able to get to 158.

All the bowlers from the Welsh Fire bowled their full quota of twenty balls. Ryan Higgins had a good outing and scalped two wickets for 31 runs. Adam Zampa the Australian overseas player and leg spinner bowled a good spell and conceded only 25 runs from the 20 balls that he bowled and he picked up a wicket in the process as well.

As it turns out, 158 runs proved to be more than enough to defend as Welsh Fire could not get going with the bat. The highest scorer in the second innings was Joe Clark, who scored 37 runs in 29 deliveries, which included three fours and two sixes. The other batters Tom Banton, Ollie Pope, and David Miller got out quickly like nine pins.

Tom Curran and Sunil Narine starred with the ball for the Oval Invincibles and picked up 5 wickets between them which put Welsh Fire on the back foot and they could not recover from there. Sam Curran also picked up a wicket for 24 runs in his full 20 balls bowled. This win was a good one for the Oval Invincibles as they beat Welsh Fire by a commanding margin of 39 runs.
