‘Welcome to Ash anna academy’ – Fans react as Alex Carey sends Jonny Bairstow back with unusual run out at Lords in Ashes 2023
There was a lot of drama that unfolded on Day 5 at Lords. England were 191-5 at the sixth ball of the 51st over in the first session. Then, Cameron Green bowled a short ball that was wide of the off stump to Jonny Bairstow. Bairstow left the ball and was running down the crease to get to his partner. He did not give any indication to the keeper or the slip cordon of doing so. Generally, players check with the wicketkeeper before they get to the other end which would ensure that the ball is dead.
Bairstow however was seen walking out of his crease in a very easy-going manner. Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey on the other hand looked like he was watching Bairstow’s moments like a hawk. When Bairstow was out of the crease he directed a well-aimed throw and scored a direct hit. When the run-out took place, Bairstow was nowhere in the frame and the Australian players were seen celebrating and appealing as they felt that Bairstow was definitely out. What Australia did was well within the rules.
Australia are leading the series 1-0 against England in Ashes Test
The rules state that the batter cannot leave the crease till the ball is deemed dead. If the batter decides to do so on any account, then he or she should check with the keeper and then only leave the crease. This moment will give more ignition to the Ashes. The Kangaroos would have felt hard done by on Day 4 when the catch taken by Mitchell Starc was declared not-out by the television umpire.
The Kangaroos are leading by 1-0 against the Three Lions in the series. England suffered a closely fought 2-wicket defeat at the hands of Australia at Edgbaston. The Kangaroos were a bit hamstrung in terms of bowling resources as Nathan Lyon suffered a calf injury on Day 2 and now his Ashes participation is in doubt. The Third Test will take place at Leeds on July 6.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:
It’s out. No question. Bairstow an idiot for not waiting for the play to be dead.
But the Aussies may have unleashed the ginger beast.— Dial T for Tyrone (@BritInTheMitt) July 2, 2023
The only person to blame for that wicket is Bairstow himself for being a fat lazy shit.
Carey releases the ball before Bairstow even leaves the crease who never looks back once.
Then he pretended to act dumb like he didn’t know what happened.
Take your rose tinted glasses off.

He's out. But it's just like a mankad, I don't think many cricket fans like those kinds of tactics.
And I also think Bairstow is an idiot for not checking before wandering out, but with the umpire already fiddling with hats it's reasonable to think the ball was dead.

Brilliant 👏
one bloke with elite awareness the other lost in space. Before you English start crying @SteveWorrall6 Carey let the ball go before Bairstow had moved, but he anticipated he would. Umpire had not called over – Smart 👌

It’s important to abide by the rules of the game. While Bairstow & England can cry hoarse, Carey had every right to run the batter out when he was out of the crease when the ball was still not dead. Simple rule of cricket & Bairstow was caught napping #DoddaMathu #Ashes23…

Carey throws that straight away. It's absolutely out. That ball is not dead, Bairstow has just dozily assumed Carey won't do what he did. Dare I say it, mankad areas.

#England fans are absolutely livid after that Bairstow run out.
The crowd booing the Aussies and chanting "same old Aussies, always cheating"
A gentleman next to me, who is a regular here, tells me Lord's crowd isn't usually like this.
Incredible atmosphere here!#Ashes23 pic.twitter.com/psV23Gyrwu

Bairstow wicket, Not Out. Spirit of cricket pushed to the boundary. Not attempting a run, end of over, scratched crease then walked for the regulation BS chat between overs between batsman. #ashes #ENGvsAUS
