Team India’s wait for the major title continued as they crashed out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 after losing the semi-finals against England. Seeing constant failures of the ‘Men-in-Blue’ at the international level, fans and former cricketers lashed out at the Indian team for their lacklustre show. Reacting to the criticism, spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared his views on India’s campaign in the T20 extravaganza.

Ashwin stated that the fans must’ve felt bad but they need to move on from that. “Everyone would have felt bad seeing Team India not win the tournament or reach the final. I agree, it would have been shattering. I don’t think any excuse will make you forget it. Definitely, it is a disappointing moment. But we all have to move on,” Ashwin said on his Youtube Channel.

He further said that India’s run can’t be called disappointing as they managed to reach the semi-final.

“We can’t call it a disappointing campaign. We lost in the semi-finals. Reaching the semi-finals and finals can be considered an achievement. But from an Indian fan’s point of view, and the expectations they have of this team, I totally understand the disappointment from the fans. But we players are at least 200-300 times more disappointed than what you all went through,” Ashwin added.

Ravichandran Ashwin failed to shine in 20-20 World Cup

Ashwin was picked over the wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the Indian team throughout the tournament which raise many eyebrows. He managed to pick six wickets at an average of 25.83 and a strike rate of 8.15. The 36-year-old also managed to score 21 runs in four innings. He scored the winning runs in the thrilling match against Pakistan and played a good cameo to boost India’s total against Bangladesh.

However, the off-spinner failed to pick wickets in crucial matches which fetched criticism from several experts. While India benched Yuzvendra Chahal, England’s Rashid bowled an economical spell in the semi-final picking up the crucial wicket of Suryakumar Yadav.

Chahal will return in action as India is on a tour to New Zealand for T20I and ODI series starting 18th November. After the first T20I got washed, the second T20I will be played on Sunday at Mount Maunganui starting 12 PM (IST).
