Yesterday, Virat Kohli played his first international game since that fateful night of November 19 when India lost the World Cup Final to Australia. It was disappointing for Kohli as he had scored heavily in the tournament, but it all went in vain as India came second in the summit clash.

However, the scheduling these days is such that winners don’t get too much time to celebrate while losers don’t get too much time to sulk. Kohli had some downtime after which his focus was set on the two-match Test series against South Africa which commenced yesterday at SuperSport Club in Centurion. India was put in to bat first by Temba Bavuma, the home skipper.

With India chasing their first series win in the Rainbow Nation, fans and pundits expected Kohli to rise to the occasion. However, the start wasn’t all too great as he was dismissed for 38 runs. Still, it wasn’t an important contribution as fans would know that scoring runs in South Africa is tougher than anywhere else in the world. Kohli was looking good before he edged Kagiso Rabada to the wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne. It was a peach of a delivery as it was angling into Kohli before curving away. Kohli had committed to the original line and paid the price. Kohli will be looking to notch up a big score in the remaining innings as India looks to create history.

Global love for RCB

Ahead of play on Day 2, he was seen giving his autograph to a young fan around the presence of commentator, Mark Nicholas. The young boy had brought an RCB jersey which he eventually received the autograph. While we know that Kohli is loved by cricket fans all around the world, the video is a massive reflection of the love and support that RCB fetches even from fans abroad. While he currently dons India’s whites, Kohli will soon be back in the ‘red and gold’ stripes of RCB in IPL 2024.
