Following a 1-1 draw in the T20I series, India claimed victory in the ODI leg with a 2-1 margin. Now, as the focus turns to the longest format of the game. The Men in Blue were allowed to bat first in the first Test of the two-match series as  Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to field first.

Despite the top order of the Indian team falling short in posting a substantial score, the responsibility to lead the innings rested on Virat Kohli along with Shreyas Iyer. Together, they contributed to the team reaching a score of 91/3 by Lunch on Day 1. However, during their partnership, the former Team India skipper was observed offering a piece of advice to the middle-order batter. A video capturing this moment is now circulating on social media.

The incident occurred during the 16th over of the innings when Test debutant Nandre Burger was bowling. With Kohli facing the delivery, the experienced batter was captured on the stump mic, advising Iyer, “Ball dekhte rehna hath mein uske, kidhar pakda rahega.”

 India are at 208/8 after Day 1

The Indian Cricket Team faced a challenging start against South Africa’s pacers, with Kagiso Rabada dismissing skipper Rohit Sharma (5). In addition to it, debutant Nandre Burger claimed crucial wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal (17) and Shubman Gill (2). India struggled at 24/3, but Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer stabilized with a 68-run partnership.

After lunch, Rabada struck again removing Iyer (31) and Kohli (38), followed by Ravichandran Ashwin. A 43-run stand between KL Rahul and Shardul Thakur provided a recovery, but Rabada’s five-wicket haul, including Shardul’s dismissal, marked his 500th international wicket. Rain interrupted play after 53 intriguing overs, and stumps were declared with India at 208/8 on Day 1 of the first Test.
