Watch: U-19 Women’s 20-20 World Cup witnesses another controversial run-out

The Australian and Sri Lankan women’s teams clashed head-to-head against each other in the 17th match of the Women’s U19 20-20 World Cup. The match was held at Willowmoore Park at Benoni. Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat. Australia got to a total of 159/5 in their 20 overs. Ella Hayward scored the most runs with her making 36. Sianna Ginger the opening batter was the second-highest scorer with 30 off 31 balls with three fours. While trying to track the runs down, Sri Lanka were no match for the Australian bowling lineup as they were bundled out for 51.

For Australia, Lucy Hamilton picked up 2-1 in her one over and Maggie Clark picked up 2-8 in his three overs. The game raised a lot of eyebrows for a disputed moment that sparked a lot of talk about the rules of the game. The disputed incident happened in the 19th over of the Australian innings. Amy Smith hit the ball towards long off of Rashmi Nethranjalee’s ball. The ball went right towards where Dulanga Dissanayake threw the ball towards the non-striker’s end Hamilton who was at the non-striker’s end, tried to run two but he cancelled her plan and ran back to the crease.

Australia are in second spot with three wins on the points table

However, Nethranjalee unintentionally blocked her way as she was waiting to take the throw from Dissanayake. The ball hit the stumps off a direct throw and Hamilton was adjudged run-out. The video created a lot of noise on social media. Some of them said that the runout was executed unfairly while some of the backed the Sri Lankan players.

Australia have got three wins in the World Cup so far. They are in the second spot in the points table in Group A. Sri Lanka have not had their best of World Cup so far as they have only won one game in the tournament. They are in third position on the points table. The tournament has already seen a controversial run out from a Pakistan Women’s player. Australia won the game by 108 runs.
