The Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals played out a cliff-hanger of a game at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. RR won the toss and decided to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal made a fantastic 124 off 62 balls with 16 fours and eight sixes. His superlative batting effort allowed RR to get to a big total of 212-7 in their 20 overs. Piyush Chawla was the best bowler for MI as he picked up 2-34 in his four overs.

In the second innings, the MI batters put up a wonderful collective batting effort to overhaul RR’s massive total. Although, Rohit Sharma got out cheaply to Sandeep Sharma for just 3 off 5, the other batters held their own.

Suryakumar Yadav was particularly impressive as he made a stroke filled 55 off 29 balls with eight fours and two sixes. During his innings, he was also caught on camera using an expletive. He mouthed some abusive language even as he made his way to the dressing room.

Tim David scored a wonderful 45 off 14 balls to finish the game off for Mumbai Indians

Along with Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green came in at number three and made a good 44 off 26 balls with four fours and two sixes. Tilak Varma made 29 off 21 balls with three fours and one six. Tim David showed glimpses of Kieron Pollard as he finished off the innings in style for MI with his wonderful ball striking. The Singapore born Australian made a cracking 45 off 14 balls with two fours and five sixes.

MI were victorious over RR in the 1000th IPL game. They ended up giving a great birthday present to their skipper Rohit. Rohit has been a pivotal part of MI from 2013 and has led them to five titles. It was only fitting that he got a win as a tribute on his 36th birthday. Rohit will have his task cut out as he will lead India in the Test Championship final at England and also in the World Cup at home.

The MI team can breathe easy with this win. They are now at eight points and are at seventh position on the points table. Their fans would have been treated to an unforgettable evening at the Wankhede which will not be forgotten any time soon.
