India’s women’s cricket team lifted their seventh women’s Asia Cup title after beating Sri Lanka in the final by 8 wickets on Saturday at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Bangladesh. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. put in an outstanding performance with the ball to restrict Sri Lanka to just 65 runs at the end of the first innings.

It took just 8.3 overs for India’s women’s team to chase down the target, thanks to a stellar knock from Smriti Mandhana. Following the win, the Indian team came up with an epic celebration.

Indian batter, Jemimah Rodrigues stole the show with a unique celebration. Smriti Mandhana took this as an opportunity to tease her teammate by interrupting the celebration.

India were nothing short of outstanding on the day of the final. Renuka Singh, once again, produced a sensational spell in the powerplay. She picked three wickets for just 5 runs in his first three overs and left Sri Lanka reeling at 16 for 5 in 5.2 overs.

All the seven players in the top-seven got out on single digit scores as Sri Lanka soon lost seven for just 25 runs on the board. The Island nation would have gotten out on a total less than 50 but small cameos from O Ranasinghe (13 off 20) and Ranaweera (18 off 22) helped the team reach 65 at the end of the first innings.

In pursuit of the total, India lost Shafali Varma (5 off 8) and Jemimah Rodrigues (2 off 4) cheaply. But Smriti Mandhana’s unbeaten 51 off just 25 balls meant India chased down the score in 8.3 overs.

With that win, the Indian women’s team have now seven Asia Cup titles to their name.
