Pakistan and England locked horns in the finals of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 on November 13, Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and it was the Three Lions skipper who won the toss and elected to field first. After restricting Pakistan to just 137 runs at the end of the first innings, England’s openers Alex Hales and Jos Buttler marched on to the crease, hopeful of repeating their heroics against India on Thursday in the semi-finals.

However, Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan’s prime fast bowler, managed to pick Hales’ scalp right in the first over of the second innings. For the unversed, Afridi came up with an inswinging delivery, that pierced through the stumps, leaving Hales baffled.

I am trying to do my bit: Adil Rashid

Concerning the first innings, it was all about Adil Rashid and Sam Curran as the duo racked up 5 wickets. While the spinner picked up a two-for, Curran, who was breathing fire right from the start, rattled the Pakistani middle order and went on to bag a three-for to his name.

Rashid, who turned up for an interview after the first innings, said that he was doing his bit and added that he tried to bowl it slower to deceive the batters. Further, the leg spinner said that he backed his strength and said that bowling it slower was his biggest plus.

“I am trying to do my bit. It all matters till the team is doing good. You assess the pitch and bowl accordingly. I tried to bowl slower as they like pace and bowling slow is my strength. There will be lots of twos with the big boundaries. I think when we first came here, we would have been very happy with 137,” Rashid said after the first innings.

As things stand, England would hope to clinch the title and create history by holding the 50-over World Cup and 20-20 World Cup titles simultaneously. Pakistan, on the other hand, would look to change things around with the ball and make it count on the night of the finals.
