In what has come out as an unusual on-field scene, South African pacer Anrich Nortje was knocked over by a spider camera on Day 2 of Australia vs South Africa’s second Test.

The South African pacer was fielding at the backward square in the first innings when Fox Sport’s spider camera hit the bowler on his back. Following a strong blow from the camera, Nortje was knocked to the ground but could be seen getting back on his feet a few seconds later.

As soon as the Nortje was hit, many from both camps came to check on the bowler. Australia batter Steve Smith was the first to ask Nortje if he was fine.

Following the incident with the ‘flying fox’ camera, videos of the same started doing the rounds of social media. Two videos, one from a stand camera and another from the spider cam that hit Nortje has been going viral on social media.

Here’s the video:

The South African bowler was lucky not to suffer a serious injury after the wire-guided camera which hovers over the ground with the help of two intersecting wires collided with the 29-year-old bowler. The spider cam is meant to cover all parts of the ground and is able to come down in between the balls to take closer footage of the game. The bizarre incident took place after Nortje’s impressive exhibition of pace bowling in post-lunch.

David Warner completes his 3rd Double-century

Elsewhere, David Warner played his 100th Test match for Australia becoming only the 14th man to achieve this feat. His place in the team has been in doubt following a poor run of form going into this game. The southpaw however has answered all his critics with a double century against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday.
