Usman Khawaja started the Ahmedabad Test in fine fashion as he scored his 14th Test hundred. The Southpaw belted the Indian bowlers to all parts of the ground. Khawaja ended day 1 on a stroke-filled 104 off 251 balls. The left-handed batter batted the entire day’s play on Day 1 and made his way to 104.  The left-handed batter batted with a lot of conviction, had a solid bat and was able to execute his strokes freely. Australia finished Day 1 on 255-5.

A funny incident happened in the second ball of the 71st over, when Khawaja ducked under a short ball which was bowled by Mohammed Shami. Khawaja ducked under the ball and the ball flew to KS Bharat. Bharat took the ball properly, but he threw the ball quickly trying to catch Khawaja off guard and to also inflict a run out. The 36-year-old was well inside his crease as the ball ended up hitting his body.

Steve Smith led Australia to a nine-wicket win over India at Indore

Bharat’s reckless actions earned him a terrifying stare from Virat Kohli who was not amused. After the throw hit Khawaja, the India keeper went and apologised to the batter. Rohit Sharma also did not appreciate Bharat’s actions and did not acknowledge it.  Bharat’s keeping has not been up to the mark in the series so far, he had dropped Travis Head earlier who went on to score 32. The India keeper had conceded a few byes as well.

India had a great start to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as they recorded convincing wins at Nagpur which was by an innings and 132 runs. In the second Test at Delhi, India won by 6 wickets. The Test side got a jolt at Indore where they suffered a 9-wicket defeat at Indore. Australia won the third Test under Steve Smith’s captaincy.

Smith led the Kangaroos well in the absence of Pat Cummins. He rotated his bowlers beautifully and was very good with his field placements. The Kangaroos have lost the last three editions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to India out of which one happened in India in 2017 and two have happened in Australia in 2018 and 2021.
