David Warner and Mitchell Marsh scored centuries to put Australia in a strong position against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 2023. The game on Friday was played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.M Pakistan won the toss and took the chance to invite Australia to bat. This was an important game for Pat Cummins and his side to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. The Aussies beat Sri Lanka to open their account in the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign.

For the Pakistanis, it was a chance to get back to winning ways after their loss to India on Saturday. There was just one change for the Pakistani with Shadab Khan making way for Usama Mir in the playing XI.

Australia post 367/9 thanks to Warner and Marsh centuries –

Shaheen Afridi was bowling the 3rd ball of the fifth over with David Warner on strike. The left-handed batter tried to hit Afridi out of the ground only to mistime the ball. Usama Mir dropped an easy catch to give the Aussie a second bite at the cherry.

This lapse proved costly as David Warner went after the Pakistani bowling attack. The 36-year-old scored his 21st ODI century after he took a single off Mohammad Nawaz. David Warner marked the century with the famous Pushpa celebration.

Just a ball after David Warner had scored his ton, Mitchell Marsh hit Nawaz for a four to get to his landmark. This was the second ODI century for the right-handed-batter who was celebrating his birthday on Friday.

The openers did not spare any of the Pakistani bowlers as they added 259 runs for the first wicket. That stand was broken when Usama Mir finally made amends for his earlier drop. Shaheen Afridi struck twice in two balls first removing Marsh for 121 then Maxwell for a 1st ball duck.

After scoring 163 runs David Warmer was finally out when he holed out Shadab Khan off Haris Rauf. The opener’s knock came off 124 balls and it included 14 hits to the fence and 9 massive sixes.

Shaheen Afridi got his second five-wicket haul in ODI cricket to end the innings at 5/54. The left-arm pacer was the reason why Pakistan could restrict Australia to 367/9 from their 50 overs when 400 was on the cards at one point.
