WATCH: Prithvi Shaw gets out in weird fashion during County game for Northamptonshire

Prithvi Shaw did not have a great Indian Premier League season in 2023. Shaw had scored 106 runs in eight innings with just the lone half-century. The Mumbaikar then flew down to England and made his County debut for Northamptonshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup. In his first game for the County, he was out in a freakish hit-wicket dismissal after making 34 against Gloucestershire in the group-B tie in Cheltenham.

The incident took place In the last ball of the 16th over, Gloucestershire bowler Paul van Meekeren dished out a bouncer as Shaw looked to pull the ball over fine leg for a maximum, but he failed to make proper connection. When he tried to hit the ball, he lost his balance and fell awkwardly on the ground and then inadvertently kicked his stumps, resulting in the hit wicket dismissal. Northamptonshire did not hit the right notes after being set a still target of 279.

The side was reeling at 30-5 before they got a much-needed partnership between Shaw and skipper Lewis Marcus which was worth 24 runs. “It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m really thankful to Northamptonshire for giving me this chance to express myself here,” Shaw said as the statement read. “It’s going to be amazing I think and I’m really looking forward to it,” Shaw said upon his arrival to England. Before he made his debut game on Friday, Shaw scored a delightful 65 off 39 balls in the warm-up fixture.

Shaw recently came back to the Indian side for the T20I home series against New Zealand but did not get a game. Shaw has been piling on the runs in domestic cricket. The right-hander made his Test debut against West Indies and scored a century. Many people called Shaw a combination of Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and Virender Sehwag.
