On this day in 2021, India overcame all the odds to script history at The Gabba. It is a venue where Australia has lost just one Test match in the last 35 years. It came against India in 2021. The incredible feat of India was possible thanks to the mental toughness of all the Indian players who had to undergo a lot of challenges in the tour.

India’s tour of Australia in 2020/21 was at different times. Back then, cricket had not resumed fully due to the restrictions on COVID-19 and the quarantine period. It frustrated the players to play in a secured bubble. There were many injuries suffered by the Indian players in the series. In contrast, Australia suffered no injury in the series and yet struggled to win.

India won the series despite going through a lot of adversities. In the first match of the series, India were dismissed for their lowest-ever Test score at Adelaide. They came back with a brilliant win at Melbourne. The third Test at Sydney saw an incredible fightback from India as they clinched a memorable draw and put Australia under pressure. Key players like Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, and Umesh Yadav were injured.

India win world by beating Australia at The Gabba

The list of injuries grew till a huge difference in the bowling attacks was formed at The Gabba. Mohammad Siraj was the leader of the attack with an experience of 2 matches. To assist him in bowling were the likes of Shardul Thakur, T Natarajan, and Navdeep Saini. The chances of winning only got lesser with the progression of the game. Australia scored 338 runs in the first innings and had India at 186/6 at one point.

India returned to the game, thanks to a memorable partnership between Shardul and Sundar. Australia scored 294 runs in the second innings. India were given a target of 328 runs, which was never chased at The Gabba. The heroics of Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, who scored 91 and 89* respectively, meant that the visiting side ended up winning the series 2-1 by scripting history.
