The first grand slam of the year, Australian Open, saw Novak Djokovic equalling Rafael Nadal’s tally of 22 grand slams. The player rose against all the odds against Tsitsipas in a three set fixture to win his 22nd title.

Novak Djokovic was ruthless throughout the game against his Greek counterpart. The Serbian defeated Tsitsipas in direct sets. The scoresheet read: 6–3, 7-6, 7-6 in Serbian’s favour. With the win in Australia, Novak Djokovic reclaimed the top spot in ATP rankings.

The post-victory emotions told all the story regarding how much the win meant for Djokovic. Djokovic gave a tight hug to his parents and broke down in the stadium. The historic 10th Australian Open title sent the fans down the emotional lane as well.

In his post match press, Novak Djokovic spoke about the challenging nature of the tournament in the post COVID era. The player did not feature in the last year’s tournament as he was against vaccination.

I have to say, this has been one of the most challenging tournaments I’ve ever played in my life considering the circumstances. Not playing last year, coming back this year,

The match observed the presence of legendary Rod Laver and Novak Djokovic mentioned about his presence and what it meant to winning in front of him. He also thanked all the fans and people who supported him during the difficult times.

“I want to thank all the people who made me feel welcome and made me feel comfortable to be in Melbourne and Australia. There’s a reason why I’ve played my best tennis throughout my career in this tournament, on this court in front of the legendary Rod Laver.”

The Spanish tennis giant, Rafa Nadal, congratulated the player on Instagram. He posted the photo where the Serbian was holding the trophy.
