WATCH: KL Rahul gets to hundred with his trademark flick shot

KL Rahul scored the fastest World Cup hundred by an Indian.

KL Rahul played a brilliant innings against the Netherlands in the ODI World Cup 2023. On a fantastic batting surface in M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru, the hometown boy got to his first hundred of the ODI World Cup 2023. In the process, Rahul became only the second Indian wicketkeeper batter to score a hundred in the tournament, after Rahul Dravid.

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. On a good batting surface, India got a fantastic start, as the openers raced away to 92/0 in the first 10 overs. Rohit, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli all scored fifties and set a very good platform for the Indian team. At 200/3 after 28.4 overs, Rahul entered the middle. It looked as if Rahul was due for a big knock.

The way Rahul played in the middle showed why he is highly rated in the cricket world. The Indian number 5 played some exquisite drives. Rahul was at his classy best, as he played flick shots well. Rahul looked under control and took the game away from the Netherlands in a matter of few minutes. With Iyer going good at the other end, Rahul joined the party and played with intent.

Trademark flick shot to complete a hundred

For the fourth wicket, the duo of Iyer and Rahul posted 208 runs, which is the highest for a batting pair for the position in the history of the ODI World Cup. While Iyer scored 128 runs in 94 balls, Rahul approached the 90s towards the end of the innings. Everyone wondered if Rahul could get to his hundred. Bas De Leede bowled the last over as Rahul was on strike.

De Leede bowled a full-length delivery. Rahul flicked it towards the square leg to fetch maximum runs. It is the trademark shot of Rahul, which got him the hundred. Rahul got to the milestone in style. More importantly, he got there quickly, which did not hamper the Indian innings. In 64 balls, Rahul scored an unbeaten 102, which included 11 fours and 4 sixes. He got to his hundred in just 62 balls.
