Indian women’s cricket team had a successful campaign in the Asian Games 2023. Nothing less than a gold medal was expected from the team for the quality they possess. The Indian team did well to live up to the expectations of the fans. On slow tracks, India performed well and won the gold medal in the event. Fans were happy for the achievement of the Indian women’s cricket team.

In the quarterfinal against Malaysia, Indian women’s team scored 173 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 15 overs. In a rain-affected game, the match ended without a result. India proceeded to the semis owing to better rankings. In the semifinal, Indian team defeated Bangladesh comfortably. India restricted Bangladeshi women for a total of just 51 runs and chased down the target in 8.2 overs.

Pooja Vastrakar was the star performer, who claimed 4 wickets in the match. In the final against Sri Lanka, there was some nerves early on as India managed to score only 116 runs. In reply, Sri Lanka scored 12 runs in the first over. But India came back well and won the match by 19 runs. The 18-year-old Titas Sadhu bowled a memorable spell and claimed 3 wickets, which helped India to win the match.

‘I want to congratulate you for winning gold in Asian Games’ – Jay Shah

Following the win of India in the final of the Asian Games 2023, the secretary of the Indian cricket board, Jay Shah, congratulated the team on the win. “First of all, I want to congratulate you for winning gold in Asian Games,” said Shah. The secretary of the Indian cricket board further talked about pay parity they introduced between men’s and women’s teams.

“BCCI introduced pay parity for men and women. After our decision, US Open Tennis, the English Cricket Board and ICC did a pay parity for men and women. BCCI has undertaken several initiatives to promote gender equality in the world of cricket. As we gear up for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, I urge all the young students to not only watch the game but also actively participate and enjoy them,” added Shah.
