The Asia Cup is scheduled to be held again in 2022 after a gap of four years. The Multilateral Tournament has gotten a slot again and the show is finally back on the road. The Continental Tournament had been pushed due to the non-agreement of a hosting venue and the Covid 19 pandemic. After juggling with several options, it was eventually decided that the tournament will be held in the United Arab Emirates.
There was widespread uncertainty over the host for the tournament There was a bit of confusion as to where the Asia Cup would be hosted. It was initially slated to be held in Sri Lanka but it was shelved due to civil unrest and economic concerns in the Island Nation. Some reports came in saying that Bangladesh would be the front-runner to host the Asia Cup. While some suggested that the Cup would be held at the Island Nation itself and a final call would be taken based on the situation.
In the end, the Middle East was elected as the host nation. The Cup will be back in the T20 format for the second time after India clinched the inaugural T20 edition in Bangladesh way back in 2016. India are also the current title holders of the Asia Cup.
It will be the second time that it will be held in the Middle East, after the 2018 edition. The Promo for the upcoming tournament was released recently by the official broadcaster. It carried iconic moments from the previous editions of the Asia Cup and it said that the Asian Nations are ready to stake their claim to be Kings of Asia once the tournament concludes. The promo was done very well.
It remains to be seen who will lift the trophy after the tournament concludes. The Asia Cup begins on 27th August and will end on 11th September. The Battle for Asian Supremacy is well and truly on!!!
