England batter Harry Brook suffered an unlucky dismissal during the ongoing first match of the Ashes 2023 against Australia. The 24-year-old was batting on 32 runs in the 38th over of the first innings on Day 1 of the Test match before Australia spinner Nathan Lyon dismissed him in a one of the most weirdest ways possible.

Lyon bowled a short ball that that went on to bounce and turn down on the leg side. Brook looked to play the shot but missed the ball and it loops off his pad in the air. The fielders around him including the wicketkeeper Alex Carey but no one had an idea where the ball went. It turned out that the ball landed on the back side of Brook’s leg and rolled onto to the stumps and the bails went off.

The Australian team started celebrating the wicket while Brook went back to the pavilion with a numb expression on his face. Former Australian skipper, Ricky Ponting, who was a commentator suring that time also left stunned with the dismissal as he said, “Desperately unlucky. I have seen many modes of dismissals but not one like that.”

England declared their first innings on 393 for 8

Talking about the ongoing match at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham, England declared their first innings on 393 runs losing 8 wickets. However, the hosts didn’t had a great start as they lost the first wicket early in the form of Ben Duckett at the score of 22 runs in 3.4 overs. After that Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope added 70 runs for the second wicket. Pope got out after scoring 31 runs off 44 balls, While Crawley wnet on to score a half century and got out after a well-made 61 runs off 73 balls hitting seven boundaries.

After that, star batter Joe Root took charge of the innings and went on to score his 30th Test century. The former Test skipper remained unbeaten on 118 runs152 balls hitting seven fours and four sixes. He also put up a 121-run partnership with Jonny Bairstow who got out after a run-a-ball 78 runs with 12 boundaries. Nathan Lyon took 4 wickets for Australia, while Josh Hazlewood put 2 in his bag. Scott Boland and Cameron Green shared a wicket each. In reply, Australia have scored 14 runs in four overs by the end of Day 1 with David Warner and Usman Khawaja at the crease.
