David Warner played a scarcely believable shot on Day 1 of the ongoing Test match between Australia and Pakistan

The Australian summer is synonymous with long, lazy days, barbecues on the beach, and, of course, the sweet tones of leather on willow. This year, the cricket season kicked off in style with the much-anticipated Test match between Australia and Pakistan at the picturesque Perth Stadium.

Australia had won the toss and chose to bat first, as they’re off to a flying start! The score is already 163-2, with the Aussies in control. Usman Khawaja played beautifully, reaching 41 before getting dismissed by Shaheen Afridi after lunch. Khawaja chased the ball outside off that moved slightly after pitching, while the former skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed took a good catch behind the stumps.

However, it is David Warner who is presently seemed to steal the limelight. In what is his final foray into the longest format of the game before calling it quits after the Sydney Test, Warner is playing with the fire of a man possessed. Currently, nearing a well-deserved century, is his every stroke is a defiant answer to the recent wave of criticism that questioned his place in the side. Mitchell Johnson’s scathing remarks and Ed Cowan’s echoing doubts seem to have fueled Warner’s determination. Today, he’s looked in sublime touch, effortlessly dispatching balls to all parts of the ground.

Warner enjoying his last bow

In the 21st over of the day, bowled by Shaheen Shah, Warner played an audacious short that took everyone by surprise, not least the commentators. Shaheen bowled a length delivery which was angling in to the southpaw. Warner got down on his haunches and smashed it over long leg and the ball went the distance. It was a shot similar to the ‘Supla Shot’ that is regularly played by World No 1 T20 batter, Suryakumar Yadav.

Coming back to the game, Pakistan must find a way to pick up some wickets quickly otherwise they could be in for not only a long Test match but a long and tough series. They have been whitewashed several times in Australia and pundits and fans expect no different this time around.
