ODI World Cup 2023

WATCH: Dale Steyn picks his 5 bowlers to watch out for in ODI World Cup 2023

Dale Steyn included five fast bowlers from five different teams.

Dale Steyn was the most devastating bowler of the 2000s and 2010s. During his period, the South African pacer was consistent across formats and dominated batters. At times, the South African pacer was unplayable. There are instances where he singlehandedly won the matches for his team with his bowling efforts on the flattest of surfaces. Fans remember him even today as one of the greatest pacers of all time.

A bowler of his calibre has picked five bowlers to watch out for in the ODI World Cup 2023. “So, my five fast bowlers to watch out in this tournament are Mohammad Siraj from India. Swings the ball up front, knocks over big batters. Key player for India,” said Steyn as he picked Siraj as the number one bowler to watch out for in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Siraj bowled a sensational spell in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka. In his seven overs, Siraj claimed six wickets and conceded only 21 runs including a maiden over. The spell from Siraj helped India to restrict the home side to a total of 50 runs and chase it down by 10 wickets to win the Asia Cup 2023. Siraj was the Player of the match in the final of the big event.

Kagiso Rabada, Shaheen Afridi, Trent Boult, and Mark Wood make the list of Dale Steyn

Steyn picked his former teammate and the current leader of the South African attack, Kagiso Rabada, as the second pick among the bowlers to watch out for in the ODI World Cup 2023. As the third pick in his list, Steyn picked the left-arm fast-medium bowler, Shaheen Afridi, from Pakistan. The two pacers have been very good over the years for their teams.

The other two bowlers Steyn picked in his list of bowlers to watch out for in the tournament are Trent Boult from New Zealand and Mark Wood from England. Interestingly, both bowlers played the final of the 2019 ODI World Cup which was dramatic for many reasons. The two bowlers are likely to start in the playing XI in the inaugural match of the season in Ahmedabad.
