Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are currently playing against each other at the Gabba stadium in Brisbane. Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first. They did not perform well with the bat, managing only 144 runs on the board in their 20 overs.

During the first innings, a comical moment also unfolded in the 17th over involving Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib. Nabi wanted to just guide a Theekshana’s delivery to mid wicket to take a single, but Naib had plans of taking a second which was a huge mistake.

Nabi said no but Naib had already left his crease. He slipped while running back and tried to roll back to the crease but wasn’t successful in doing so. Eventually, the keeper knocked the bails off to dismiss him. The third umpire was not needed to adjudge the decision.

Here’s a look at the video:

The confusion was apparent between the two batters in the middle. They wanted to get quick runs and this accounted for Naib’s dismissal. Afghanistan are playing their first match in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 as their other games were washed out.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the highest-scorer for Afghanistan as he made 28 off 24 balls with two fours and two sixes. All the batters including Rashid Khan got starts but could not convert them into big scores. For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga and Lahiru Kumara were the pick of the bowlers.

Hasaranga picked up 3-13 in his four overs, while Kumara picked up 2-30 in his quota of four overs. At the time of writing, Sri Lanka has scored 46-2 in 7.5 overs. Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka were dismissed by Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahaman respectively.

The two teams, earlier, clashed in the Asia Cup 2022 where Afghanistan won against Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in a low scoring encounter held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Afghanistan dismissed Sri Lanka for just 105 in 19.4 overs and chased the target in just 10.1 overs.
