The 4th match of the International League T20 took place betweem Desert Vipers and Sharjah Warriors. The Desert Vipers won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Sharjah Warriors made 145-5 in their 20 overs. The start was very sedate as Rahamanullah Gurbaz made 22 off 15 balls at the top of the order with two fours and two sixes.

Evin Lewis departed for a duck. Amidst that, a bizarre incident happened when the Sharjah Warriors were batting. The incident happened on the fourth ball of the fifth over. Sheldon Cottrell bowled a high full toss to Tom Kohler Cadmore.

The ball was a high full toss, and it would have ended up outside the off Stump. But Kohler Cadmore took the ball on the full and smashed it to deep extra cover. The ball almost went for a six but bounced before the boundary fence and went for four.

The four was not counted in the end as umpire gave it as a dead ball. It was also called a no-ball at the same time. MCC law 21.8, suggests that if the ball delivered “is so far from the pitch that the striker would need to leave the pitch to attempt to play the ball, without having previously touched the bat or person of the striker, the umpire shall call and signal no-ball and immediately call and signal Dead-ball.”

The runs would have only been deemed legitimate if the batter would have stayed on the pitch and hit the ball. This did not happen in Kohler Cadmore’s case as he had stepped outside the pitch to hit the ball.

In the end, it was rightfully called a dead ball. The ball, however, did not make a difference in the match. In the end, the Warriors could only manage to get 145-5. Thanks to runs from Joe Denly and Mohammad Nabi, the Vipers, in the end, won the game by 7 wickets. They chased down the target of 146 runs in 16.4 overs.

The Warriors are on 5th spot in the points table having lost two games on the trot. They are only above Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, who have a poorer net run rate than the Warriors.
