Pakistan and New Zealand faced off against each other in the first Test that kicked off on December 26 and the match ended in a draw, with Kiwis almost giving a scare as they were chasing a target of 138 inside 15 overs on Day 5, Friday, until the umpires called it a day due to bad light, when the Tim Southee-led team were reeling at 61/1.

As one could expect, the Pakistani skipper Babar Azam faced a lot of criticism for his declaration that almost cost them the match. While attending a press conference post the conclusion of the match, towards the end, a reporter shouted that he was not given a chance to ask the question despite raising his hand too many times.

However, as the media manager turned off the microphone, the Pakistani skipper, gave a deadly stare at the journalist before walking out of the room without giving him an answer. “Ye koi tareeka nahi hain, yaha sawaal ke lie aapko ishaare kar rahe hain (This is not the way, I’m making repeated gestures to ask a question)” shouted the reporter. Fans left no stone unturned to share the video on the internet and the clip is now going viral, with many lauding Babar for his stand.

Thrilling draw between Pakistan and New Zealand in 1st Test

To add more to the match, Pakistan batted first and put on 438 runs on the board at the end of the first innings on the back of a hard-fought 161 from the skipper and a well-crafted 86 from Sarfaraz Ahmed, followed by a century from Agha Salman. However, a double century from the New Zealand skipper in their first innings ensured the Kiwis took a lead of 174 runs after declaring at 612/9.

The Pakistani camp batted well in the second innings and were reeling at 311 on Day 5 with a session to go when Babar decided to declare the innings, setting a meagre target within 15 overs. Much to the surprise of Pakistani fans, post-Michael Bracewell’s wicket, Tom Latham started scoring boundaries for fun and inched the Kiwis closer to the target, until the umpires interfered and forced a draw due to bad light.
