WATCH: Afghanistan Cricket team arrives in Kerala ahead of ODI World Cup 2023
Ahead of the prestigious ODI World Cup 2023, teams from around the globe have started arriving in India. After Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and South Africa, Afghanistan arrived in Kerala ahead of their scheduled warm-up games. They received a tremendous welcome at Trivandrum Airport as fans erupted in huge numbers.
The team checked in at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram. They received a warm and traditional welcome from hotel staff on Tuesday morning. It’s worth noting that Afghanistan also received their visa just two days before Pakistan. The team also came through the Dubai root as they had a camp ahead of the marquee event.

Talking about the ODI World Cup, Afghanistan will start their campaign with a warm-up game against South Africa. The match will take place on Friday, September 29, at the Greenfield Cricket Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. It’s worth noting that this year’s ODI World Cup was pretty special for the Afghani team, as they earned direct qualification by beating teams like Sri Lanka and the West Indies.

After facing South Africa in the warm-up game, the Afghani team will face Sri Lanka in the second warm-up game on October 3. However, their campaign in the main tournament will start against Bangladesh on October 7 at the HCA cricket stadium in Dharamshala. After that, the team will face hosts India at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Talking about their squad, Afghanistan possesses a great combination of spin and pace bowling attacks. In the recently concluded Asia Cup, they faced some challenges during group matches and had a great time in sub-continent conditions. The team will be led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, while senior players like Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi will assist him.
