India began their three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka on a positive note, defeating the Lankans by 67 runs in a high-scoring affair in Guwahati on Tuesday.

The series now moves on to Kolkata, where the second ODI will be held on Thursday, January 12. The Indian cricket team arrived in the City of Joy on Wednesday, January 11, which also happened to be head coach Rahul Dravid’s 50th birthday.

The team was welcomed at the team hotel with a cake as part of a special birthday celebration for Dravid. In a video posted on Twitter by the Indian Cricket Board, the players and staff expressed love for the coach by singing ‘Happy Birthday’ as he cut the cake to mark the occasion.

Known for his textbook technique and remarkable powers of concentration that allowed him to bat for hours, Dravid has firmly established himself as one of the greatest batters in Indian cricket as well as on the world stage. He scored more than 10,000 runs in both Test and ODI cricket, even kept wickets in the latter for a part of his career in an effort to help the team find balance in the limited-overs format.

After securing the win in the first ODI, this celebration is sure to have boosted morale in the Indian camp further as they take to the field for the second game. Rohit Sharma and Co. will face Sri Lanka in the second match on Thursday at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.

India won the first ODI by 67 runs in Gawahati. Virat Kohli notched his 45th ODI hundred, helping India post a gigantic score of 373 runs in the first innings. In the second innings, Dasun Shanaka played a sensational knock of 108 runs in 88 balls but it didn’t prove enough as India won the game by a big margin of 67 runs.
