Pakistan surprised the entire cricketing fraternity on Wednesday as they beat New Zealand to reach the final of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Pakistan fans were over the moon following their team’s entry into the finals as they shared their happiness on social media. Former Pakistan Cricketer Imran Nazir also expressed his excitement and took a dig at former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer with a Tweet.

Nazir took to Twitter and tagged Jaffer in a tweet with a photo of Amitabh Bachchan from a scene of the Bollywood film ‘Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham’ after Pakistan won the first semi-final against New Zealand. “Guess karo hum kahan hai (Guess, where have we reached)?” – this line was written on the photo. Jaffer gave a one-word hilarious reply – “Lahore?” which has now gone viral.

Pakistan put up a clinical performance in the semi-final

Coming back to the match, Pakistan put up a clinical performance against the runner-ups of the last edition of the World Cup at the SCG. After New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bat first, Pakistan gave them an early blow in the first over itself as Shaheen Afridi removed the dangerous Fin Allen.

A run-out and caught and bowled dismissal of Devon Conway and Glenn Philips respectively, left New Zealand reeling at 49/3. Williamson and Daryl Mitchell stabilised the innings with their 68-run partnership for the fourth wicket. New Zealand managed to reach a total of 152/4 after their allotted 20 overs.

Pakistan’s chase got off to an incredible start as openers Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam added 105 runs for the first wicket. Both batters returned to the pavilion after scoring their half-centuries. After losing their openers, Mohammad Haris guided his team to the target with his innings of 30 off 26 balls. Pakistan chased down the target with five balls to spare and reached the final of the 20-20 World Cup for the third time.

Pakistan will face the winner of the second semi-final between India and England in the final scheduled to be played at the MCG on 13th November.
