Former Indian cricketer, Wasim Jaffer reckons that Kuldeep Yadav should have been part of India’s squad for the 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. His remark came after the Indian spinner exhibited an outstanding performance in the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh.

Kuldeep Yadav picked five wickets for just 40 runs in 16 overs to help Indian bundle out Bangladesh for just 150 runs in their first innings. Jaffer also feels that Yadav could play a major role in the upcoming series against Australia.

“It’s very exciting to see Kuldeep Yadav bowl in this fashion. I had said earlier too that he should have been a part of the T20 World Cup as well. It was unfortunate not to see him play. The way he bowled in the IPL, I was really surprised that he was not a part of the squad. He will play a major role in the upcoming series against Australia,” Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo.

Kuldeep Yadav broke the back of Bangladesh’s batting unit. He picked his first wicket on just the second ball of his spell as he had Shakib Al Hasan caught at slips. He then claimed the wickets of Mushfiqur Rahim, Nurul Hasan, and Taijul Islam to finish with four wickets at the end of day 2.

“Kuldeep Yadav brings variety to India’s bowling attack. He had great control in the Indian T20 League, bowling with a big heart against top batters. He got a lot of confidence from that, given that he had to sit on the bench the previous two seasons. He has had a lot more opportunities since coming to the Delhi franchise, and you can see that confidence coming back. He needs to be a part of the attack, especially in Indian conditions,” Jaffer added.

India bundled out Bangladesh for 150 runs on the first session of day 3. At Lunch on Day 3, India have scored 36 runs for no loss and, currently, lead by 290 runs.
