‘Wankhede se utha ke India khila dunga’ – Fans react as Venkatesh Iyer smashes spectacular century against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023

In the 22nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, star Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) allrounder Venkatesh Iyer hammered a magnificent century against Mumbai Indians (MI). Playing at the Wankhede Stadium, Iyer helped Kolkata Knight Riders to post 185-6 in 20 overs. Iyer with his absolute clean hitting, became KKR’s first centurion in 15 years in the IPL. Earlier, the only centurion for KKR was Kiwi batter Brendon McCullum who had hammered 155 runs in the first-ever game of the IPL in 2008.

Meanwhile, after winning the Toss Suryakumar Yadav, the Stand-in captain of Mumbai Indians opted to bowl first. Mumbai made two changes as Rohit Sharma and Jason Behrendroff missed out to make a way for Arjun Tendulkar and Duan Jansen. After putting to bat first, KKR get a shaky start as they were restricted to 73-3 in 8.1 overs. However, Venkatesh Iyer along with Shardul Thakur added 50 runs off 28 balls and helped KKR to post a comfortable total. Iyer in his innings scored 104 runs off 51 balls with the help of six boundaries and nine sixes.

MI spinners helped Mumbai to make a comeback

While pacers were being hammered by Iyer and Thakur the spin duo of Mumbai helped them to make a comeback. Ace spinner Piyush Chawla and Youngster Hrithik Shokheen clinched three wickets and helped Mumbai to make a strong comeback. With their amazing bowling, Mumbai stopped KKR for 185-6 in 20 overs as in the end KKR failed to control the run flow and fell 15-20 runs short.

Notably, Arjun Tendulkar, son of legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians. He along with Duan Jansen played his first match in the cash-rich league. Arjun bowled four overs and gave just 17 runs. Meanwhile, Jansen clinched a wicket while bowling four overs and giving 53 runs. Meanwhile, fans react to Venkatesh Iyer’s amazing innings.
