‘Wake up Cricket Australia’- Twitter hails David Warner after sensational double century against South Africa amidst leadership-ban controversy
Star Australia batter David Warner has been going through a turbulent time right now. The southpaw has been having a tussle with Cricket Australia over his lifetime leadership ban.
The southpaw however is also struggling with the bat in Tests. His last Test ton came way back in January 2020 and it has been almost three years since the 36-year-old has gotten past 100 run mark. His poor form in the Test as well as his clash with his own board has raised doubts about his palace in the team. Many were suggesting that the days of Warner are numbered.
On the second day of the Boxing Day Test match between Australia- South Africa, the former Australia captain shut his critics up with a sensation double century. In reply to South Africa’s 189 in the first innings, David Warner took to the field and played an innings reminiscent of his past best.
In just 254 balls, the Australian veteran made 200 runs on a pitch that proved to be troublesome for all batters before him. With this double century, the Australia batter has taken his tally to 3. Additionally, he has also put Australia in a very commanding position on Day 2 of the Boxing day Test match.
Following his knock fans have been hailing the Australian batter to be one of the best the world has ever seen. A fan by the name Bharat Sundaresan wrote, “If he wasn’t already there, David Warner has just etched himself into all-time greatness not just in Australian cricket but in world cricket.”

The left-hand batter however could not continue playing after his double century as he was forced to retire due to cramps in his legs. The batter was helped by Australian medical staff to the dressing room. At the end of Day 2, Australia are 386/3 with Travis Head (48) and Alex Carey (9) on the crease.
