Shubman Gill silenced his critics with a marvellous hundred at Ahmedabad on Wednesday. He made a whirlwind unbeaten knock of 126 off 63 balls with 12 fours and seven sixes. This knock from the Punjab batter blew the Kiwis into submission as they did not know what had hit them. He became India’s highest run scorer in T20Is surpassing Virat Kohli’s 122 off 61 balls against Afghanistan.

Gill has been touted as the future of Indian Cricket. Former India captain Kohli took to Instagram to put up a story on Gill’s sensational knock against the black caps. Kohli put out a picture with Gill with the caption, “Sitaara (Star). The future is here,”. Gill has been in tremendous ODI form and now has carried it on to the T20Is. He also repaid T20I captain Hardik Pandya’s faith and delivered the goods.

Here is the tweet-

Gill became the second youngest batter to hit hundreds in all formats of the game after Ahmed Shazad

Gill also became the second youngest batter in the history of the game to achieve the rare feat of having tons across all formats. The record is held by Pakistan’s Ahmed Shahzad as he got to a century in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is at 22 years and 127 days. Gill had been under pressure till he made the century as he had only 76 runs from five innings.

He did not have the best series on debut against Sri Lanka. The right-hand batter has been in wonderful nick over the last few innings in ODIs. He has also shown that he can do it in T20Is too. He was under pressure as Prithvi Shaw came back into the side and was breathing hot on Gill’s heels. This knock will help Gill to stake a permanent claim on the T20I side.

Gill will be looking to replicate the same form albeit in whites when Australia takes on India in a four-match Test series for the Border Gavaskar Trophy which is slated to start on February 9. The first Test will be held in Nagpur. Gill also scored his maiden Test Hundred in the Bangladesh Tour where India beat the Eastern neighbours 2-0.
