Team India has to make a miraculous comeback if they want to hold any footing in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. There are currently in a very precarious position after giving Australia a 173-run lead in the first innings. The top order put in a below-par performance with the bat. Rohit Sharma was trapped lbw by Scott Boland. Then, Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara threw their wickets away after leaving balls, which they should have not.

Virat Kohli also could not get going as he got a ripper of a ball from Mitchell Starc that he couldn’t do anything about. The former Indian captain was dismissed for 14 off 31 balls with two fours. Kohli later took to social media to put out a cryptic Instagram story, which left the fans questioning what he actually meant. India put on a hapless bowling performance as well as they could not dictate terms after reducing Australia to 76-3 at one stage on Day 1.

Here is the Instagram Story-

Steve Smith and Travis Head had a 285-run stand for Australia

Steve Smith and Travis Head were helped by erratic bowling from India as they put away the loose balls at will. The Indian bowlers and fielders had to endure a tough day and a half on the field. This match has come after a hectic India Premier League season that took place just before the WTC final. Smith and Head put together a wonderful partnership of 285 runs that sent the Indian bowlers on a leather hunt.

The lower order too chipped in as India somehow clawed their way back in the game with Mohammed Siraj picking up a four-wicket haul. With the bat in hand, there was only Ravindra Jadeja who made an eye-catching 48 off 51 balls with seven fours and one six and Ajinkya Rahane who scored 29 off 71 balls with four fours before coping a blow to the hand which affected his run scoring towards the end of Day 2.

India lost the 2021 WTC final to New Zealand when the two sides played at Edgbaston. The Men in Blue have also not won a world event in nine years. Australia are well and truly in with a dominating chance to win their first WTC title. Both teams had earlier squared off against each other for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India in March.
