The Talismanic batter for India, Virat Kohli has spoken a lot of times at length about his relationship with Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the love and bonding that they have between them. The chemistry between the two is well known.

Virat has credited MS for helping him through the ranks in his early days and has time and again given his name a mention for the success that he achieved during his early days with the Indian team. As India gear up to play in yet another 20-20 World Cup, Virat Kohli vividly recalled the times in which they supported each other without any second thought.

“We were not that open with each other till then (2011 World Cup), because I was still a very young guy in the team. But now looking back at how our relationship evolved, that moment is quite special, Kohli said about the famous image of win wrapping the Indian flag around Dhoni after India’s triumphant campaign. He said this on a show by the Cricket Governing Body.

MS Dhoni is known to give players solid backing. Once Dhoni believes in a player’s ability, he will give the person ample opportunities to thrive. We have seen it in the case of Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja and also of course Kohli.

The star Indian batter went on to say that he survived at the international level through Dhoni’s unconditional backing and support. The latter did not desert him or turn his back on him at any point in time.

“What I experienced in my friendship with MS is very difficult to explain in words because it is based on understanding and trust…”Within that faith and trust, then the relationship evolved outside the game as well. We spoke on many things; we understood each other’s mindsets absolutely clearly and the support he provided in my early days was crucial for my growth. Towards the latter half of his career, I was always there for him.’’

“It was never like he was the captain, or I was the captain. For me, he was always the same guy. His input was always valuable for me. For us, it was never about who was the captain, it has been a free -flowing relationship. It is something which I am going to cherish for the rest of my life,” Kohli concluded.
