In Dominica, the venue of the first Test in the West Indies, India continued to control events. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 14 fours en route to an undefeated 143 off 350 balls. Jaiswal, who batted freely for an unbeaten 36 off 96 balls with one four, had Virat Kohli as the perfect foil. Even if Kohli’s fluency was not quite at its peak, he managed to survive and emerge unhurt.

During the course of Day 2, the West Indies spin troika of Rahkeem Cornwall, Jomel Warrican and Kraigg Brathwaite combined with the turn-on offer caused some problems for the Indian batters. On another note, Kohli was very displeased with the bowling action of the West Indies skipper. As per some reports, Kohli was seen complaining about the same to  Jaiswal. According to reports from Wisden and some others, Kohli was seen saying, “Bhatta phenk raha hai”, which roughly translates to “he is throwing bricks”.

Kraigg Brathwaite has picked up 29 wickets in Test Cricket

This statement implied that Kohli was questioning the legality of his action. Braithwaite has often rolled his arm over in Test match cricket and has proved to be a vital part-time spin bowling option for the Men in Maroon. Brathwaite has picked up 29 wickets in Test cricket and has best bowling figures of 6-29 in the red-ball format. Coming to Brathwaite’s bowling action, he has been questioned about it in the past as well.

“A bowler’s elbow extension should exceed 15 degrees, measured from the point at which the bowling arm reaches the horizontal until the point at which the ball is released”. this is what the law states. Kohli only hinted at Brathwaite having an illegitimate action and conveyed it to Jaiswal. Kohli has not lodged an official complaint into the matter. Talking about the match, West Indies folded up for 150 in the first innings.

Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 5-60 in his spell of 24.3 overs. Rohit Sharma also slammed 103 off 221 balls with 10 fours and two sixes. For West Indies, Alick Athanaze was the lone bright spot for the Men in Maroon as he hit 47 off 99 balls with six fours one one six on his debut.
