Vir Das backs Deepika Padukone as trolls slam the actress on ‘casual dating’ remark on Koffee With Karan
Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone spoke extensively about their relationship and how it led to marriage in the opening episode of Koffee with Karan Season 8. Since then, a lot of people have left lengthy comments on the internet regarding Deepika’s admission that she saw “other people” while still dating Ranveer. Comedian and actor Vir Das has now commented on the issue and addressed the entire internet outcry surrounding the episode.
Vir stood firm with Deepika on his X (previously Twitter) account. He penned, “Moment of silence for all the men who are upset that a Bollywood star way out of their league was casually dating for a while, and wasn’t as committed as their imaginary girlfriend is to them.” One user responded to Vir’s hilarious analysis by saying, “Nailed it.” Another person said, “Not sure what he means by ‘league’ here. No average Indian man wants to play in this league, real or imagined, not even in Bollywood.” One user commented, “This explains it!”

Deepika stated in the episode, “I wanted to take a break from relationships because I’ve come from challenging situations. I was going through a phase where I was saying to myself. I just don’t want to be committed or attached. Also, I wanted to have fun! I didn’t commit until he proposed to me. No ‘commitment as such’ existed. We would simply keep going back to each other, even if we were technically permitted to see other people.” At one point later in the episode, Deepika even questioned Ranveer about who her suitors were. “Abhi toh tumne bola I was seeing other people but I would go back to him,” retorted a clearly irritated Ranveer. “I don’t recall the individuals,” Deepika answered. In response, Ranveer stated, “I remember very clearly.”
