‘Very Sad’ – Fans devastated as Carlos Alcaraz will not be part of Australian Open due to leg injury
World number one Carlos Alcaraz informed on Friday that he will skip the Australian Open 2023. This happened after he hurt his leg while training. With Alcaraz staying out of the event, Rafael Nadal, the defending champion and 22- time Grand Slam winner of the event will be pushed to the top seed. The Australian Open will start in Melbourne on January 16. Nowak Djokovic will also climb into the top four seedings.
Djokovic made a comeback into the Australian Open after he did not play the last edition after being extradited from the country because he refused to get vaccinated. Alcaraz won the US Open last September which made him the youngest World No 1. Alcaraz also held the No 1 ranking for a year and was the first person other than Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick and Andy Murray since 2003.
“I picked up an injury through a chance, unnatural movement in training,” the 19-year-old Spaniard wrote on Twitter. “I’d worked so hard to get to my best level for Australia but unfortunately I won’t be able to play,” the world’s top-ranked player added. “It’s tough, but I have to be optimistic, recover and look forward. We’ll see you at the Australian Open in 2024.”
“I have to be prepared for that, the pressure. The people, the players as well, are going to have all their eyes on me and I’m going to have to be prepared for that,”. “Probably it’s going to help me a little bit to try not to think about the people, the expectations, and the ranking, and that kind of stuff,” he said. “I’m just going to see myself better, trying to push myself to a high level. Right now I’m focused on myself, on recovering my level.”
He has played the Australian Open twice. He has reached the second round after going through the qualifying stages in 2021. In 2022 he went down in five sets to Matteo Berrettini in the round of 32. In the last season played he won five titles and recorded 57 wins in 70 games. Twitter was shocked, let us take a look at the reactions here-
Carlos Alcaraz missing the ATP Finals and now the whole Australian Open swing due to injuries is the reason we should not call GOAT ahead of time. You just never know what might happen, though hopefully he can come back at his highest level.

Very sad that Carlos Alcaraz won’t be able to play at the AO.
I’ve been thinking for months… “I can’t wait to see Alcaraz really defend his #1 rank at a Major.
Damn.
