Rohit Sharma was seen looking dapper in the new India Test jersey that will be worn for the World Test Championship final. The Mumbaikar would want to break India’s nine-year trophy drought and win a world event. Rohit had a chance of doing that in the 20-20 World Cup in Australia, but India was no match for an in-form England at Adelaide in the semi-final. This final will be Rohit’s biggest test as a captain yet.

India has done very well in Tests in the last WTC cycle and this one. New Zealand beat India in the last WTC final which was held at Edgbaston. Ahead of the big clash, this is what Rohit said about the batting conditions in England. “Look, I think, in England in general, it’s pretty challenging conditions for batters. As long as you are prepared to have a good grind, you can have success,”. He said on the ‘Afternoon With Test Legends’ event in England on Sunday.

You need to keep concentrating for longer periods of time in England- Rohit Sharma

“One thing I realised in 2021, you are never in (set) and the weather keeps changing. You need to keep concentrating for longer periods of time and you will get that intuition when it’s time to take on the bowlers. More importantly, you need to be out there and you have got to understand what your strengths are,” Rohit said as he talked about the challenges of batting in England.

Rohit believed that the biggest challenge for India will be to make subtle adjustments ahead of the WTC final. India has been in T20 mode over the last two months due to the Indian Premier League. The India skipper said that switching formats will be hard but he is one to take up the challenge.  “That (change of formats) certainly has been the challenging factor. You know you play multi-format. Mentally you have to be very adaptable and tweak your technique. You need to be talking to yourself and get mentally ready,” the 36-year-old said.

Australia were also dealt a big blow ahead of the WTC final as Josh Hazelwood was ruled out due to injury. Michael Neser replaced him in the Australian squad.  India and Australia had locked horns at the Boarder-Gavaskar trophy previously where India beat Australia 2-1.
