The India squads for Tests and ODIs have been announced for the West Indies tour. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been drafted in for the tour. Jaiswal had also made it to the World Test Championship final as a standby in place of Ruturaj Gaikwad. Jaiswal has played 15 matches in first-class cricket and has amassed 1845 runs at an average of 80.21 and at a strike rate of 67.48. The left-hander has struck nine centuries and two fifties in first-class cricket.

Now reports have surfaced that the Indian management is looking at Yashasvi Jaiswal as an ideal No.3 batter for India in Test cricket. This development seems strange as Jaiswal has been primarily opening in first-class cricket for Mumbai and also for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. Jaiswal if he opens can lend a differentiating factor because of him being a left-hander.

In the IPL, Jaiswal has made 1137 runs in 37 games at an average of 32.55 and at a strike rate of 148.73. The 21-year-old has one century and eight fifties in the tournament. With his consistent performances, Jaiswal has got a foot in the door into the Indian side and will want to utilise this chance to the fullest. When it comes to the test side, the notable exclusion is Cheteshwar Pujara. Navdeep Saini comes back, and Mukesh Kumar also gets the go-ahead.
