Umesh Yadav’s cryptic post on social media suggests a longing for a national comeback
Umesh Yadav’s impressive career spanning 57 Tests, 75 ODIs, and 9 T20Is for India saw him contribute significantly to the national team. However, his last international appearance came in the 2023 WTC final against Australia. Since then, the emergence of younger pacers like Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep has shifted the selectors’ focus, potentially leaving Yadav’s international career at an impasse.
Despite being out of the national conversation for the moment, Yadav remains dedicated to domestic cricket, consistently performing well for his state team, Vidarbha. This season, he has continued to impress, delivering strong bowling figures in most of his appearances.
“Kitaabon par dhool jamne se…”
Today, Yadav took to Instagram to put UP a story in which he wrote “Kitaabon par dhool jamne se, kahaaniyan khatm nahi hoti”, which translates to “When books become dusty, the story isn’t over.” His cryptic post suggests that he still harbours the hope of adding to his 141 appearances for the country. While his comeback prospects remain uncertain, India’s upcoming tour of Australia presents a possible opportunity for him to reclaim his spot.
The tour will be a huge one for the visitors as they look to complete a hat-trick of wins Down Under. The fact that Yadav has plenty of experience in Australian conditions could work in his favour. He was also part of the last two victorious trips and hence, that augurs well for the tall pacer.
Umesh Yadav will soon be seen donning the blue jersey of the Gujarat Titans in the upcoming IPL season. He was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders after last season and acquired by the Titans at the auction. This reunites him with Mohammed Shami, his teammate in numerous India matches, including the successful 2015 World Cup campaign in which they claimed plenty of wickets as a pair. Yadav will hope to put up a good showing as we have seen over the years that a good run in the IPL significantly bolsters the chances of returning to the Indian side.
