‘Tu Kamaal kar diya puttar’ – Fans rapt as Prabhsimran Singh scores his first IPL century against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023

The Delhi Capitals and the Punjab Kings locked horns at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the 58th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 on Saturday. The coin went DC’s way and they elected to bowl first.

PBKS did not get off to the finest of starts as they lost Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma very early. They were tottering at 45-3. But one man decided to change gears and also the course of the match and his name was Prabhsimran Singh.

The PBKS opening batter started off slowly but changed gears through the course of his innings. His knock was a perfect balance between control and aggression. The right hander was able to find the big hits at will and put pressure on a very determined DC bowling lineup.

He made a 103 off 65 balls with 10 fours and four sixes. It was an innings which had surgical presession. While he was going all guns blazing on one end, he was loosing partners at the other end.

Sam Curran and Harpreet Brar could not find out how to get themselves moving.  Curran was caught by Aman Hakim Khan off Praveen Dubey for 20 off 24 balls. Curran just hit one four. PBKS decision to send Harpreet Brar ahead of the big hitting Shahrukh Khan backfired as he did not have enough time to get his eye in. He had to start hitting from the get-go. Unfortunately, he was run out by Phil Salt and Khaleel Ahmed. Sikandar Raza made an unbeaten 11 off 7 with one six.

PBKS finished off on 167-7 in their 20 overs. Ishant Sharma was DC’s best bowler as he took 2-27 on his three over spell. Prabhsimran’s hundred was the fifth one in the IPL. The big hitting top order batter has been one of the better performers for PBKS this season. The opening batter has accumulated 334 runs in 12 matches at a strike rate of 153.1. India have found yet another opener in the T20 format.

DC and PBKS both have had mixed IPL campaigns. PBKS are still in the hunt for the playoffs. While DC are out but are still mathematically in it if results go their way. PBKS have had one appearance in the IPL final in 2014.
