Indian women’s hockey team has been growing in the past few years with the junior set-up in the country progressing at a good pace. The 2013 Junior World can be attributed as a successful one with many transitioning into the senior setup. Indian women’s team has had several successful moments in their history. They won the Gold Medal during the inaugural 1982 Asian Games held in New Delhi.

They have even won the gold during the 2002 Commonwealth Games. In recent years, after the appointment of Sjoerd Marijne as a coach, the team transformed well with high-level fitness which was lacking. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics India finished fourth as they closely missed out on the bronze medal and put up a good show after losing three matches on the trot initially. One of the most promising stars of the national team is Lalremsiami. She has been successful both at the junior and senior levels. She was part of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games held in Buenos Aires where India finished 2nd. In 2020 she was bestowed with the rising star of the year award. Furthermore, she took part in the Junior World Cup held recently and was part of the midfield.
