As the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) player auction approaches swiftly, the deadline for all 10 franchises to reveal their released and retained players concluded on November 26. Although the trading window also closed on the same day, franchises retain the ability to reach agreements up to a week before the auction, slated for December 19 in Dubai.

Several teams have already commenced announcing their retained players, marking the onset of the Indian Premier League 2024 Retention process. This period before the auction facilitates player exchanges through swaps or all-cash deals, enabling teams to restructure their squads and acquire necessary players if they possess funds in their purses. The IPL’s 16-year history has witnessed numerous surprising and anticipated trades.

Shikhar Dhawan – SRH to DC

Shikhar Dhawan started his IPL career with Delhi Capitals in 2008, had stints with Mumbai Indians and Deccan Chargers, and played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from 2013 to 2018. After a brief release, he returned to Delhi Capitals in 2019. In a trade deal to secure Shikhar Dhawan, Delhi Capitals (DC) exchanged three players with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Abhishek Sharma who is now a pivotal opener for DC joined the team in 2018. Vijay Shankar was the second player in the trade who continued with SRH until 2021. The third player was spinner Shahbaz Nadeem who is currently playing for Lucknow Super Giants.
