The English added another feather to the cap when they won the T20 World Cup last year in Australia.
Ben Stokes on Wednesday wrote himself into the record books. The 32-year-old was making his comeback to ODI cricket after his retirement. During the third ODI, he scored 182 as he dominated the New Zealand attack in the 181-run win. Here are the five English players who have scored the highest individual scores in ODI cricket
#5. Jos Buttler – 162 not out versus Netherlands -2022
The ODI between England and the Netherlands was a mismatch as the World Cup winners scored a record 498. Phil Salt had scored 122 along with Dawid Malan who scored 125. The main assault came from the current English skipper Jos Buttler, who scored 162 not out. His knock came off 70 balls with 9 fours and 14 sixes.
#4. Robin Smith -167 not out versus Australia -1993
Former English batter Robin Smith held the record for the highest score in ODI cricket for a long time. The right-handed batter scored 167 not out against Australia at Birmingham as England posted 277 from 55 overs. Smith got his runs in 163 balls with 17 fours and 3 sixes. Despite his score Australia won the game, Mark Waugh scored 113 and Allan Border scored 86 unbeaten during a famous chase.
#3. Alex Hales – 171 versus Pakistan -2016
The former lanky right-handed opening batter, Alex Hales was never short of talent. It was evident during the 3rd ODI against Pakistan at Nottingham. England scored a then-record ODI score of 444, and Alex Hales broke the 23-year record of Robin Smith as he scored 171. Hales got his runs in 122 balls with 22 fours and 4 sixes. England, won the game by a massive 169-run margin.
#2. Jason Roy – 180 versus Australia -2018
Alex Hales’s record of 171 stood the test of time for two years before Jason Roy took over. The right-handed batter flayed Australia all across the park at MCG to score 180 runs while chasing 305 to win. Roy got his runs in 151 balls with 16 fours and 5 sixes before he was dismissed by Starc.

English all–rounder Ben Stokes always delivers against New Zealand and the game at the Oval was no different. Walking into bat at number 4 with the score reading 13 for 2, Stokes took time to get going. Once he got his eye in, Stokes flayed the Kiwis across the park as he scored 182 off 124 balls. Stokes hit 15 fours and 9 sixes as he took the claim to be called the holder of the highest individual score for England in ODI cricket.
