The main assault came from the current English skipper Jos Buttler, who scored 162 not out. His knock came off 70 balls with 9 fours and 14 sixes.

Former English batter Robin Smith held the record for the highest score in ODI cricket for a long time. The right-handed batter scored 167 not out against Australia at Birmingham as England posted 277 from 55 overs. Smith got his runs in 163 balls with 17 fours and 3 sixes. Despite his score Australia won the game, Mark Waugh scored 113 and Allan Border scored 86 unbeaten during a famous chase.

The former lanky right-handed opening batter, Alex Hales was never short of talent. It was evident during the 3rd ODI against Pakistan at Nottingham. England scored a then-record ODI score of 444, and Alex Hales broke the 23-year record of Robin Smith as he scored 171. Hales got his runs in 122 balls with 22 fours and 4 sixes. England, won the game by a massive 169-run margin.

Alex Hales’s record of 171 stood the test of time for two years before Jason Roy took over. The right-handed batter flayed Australia all across the park at MCG to score 180 runs while chasing 305 to win. Roy got his runs in 151 balls with 16 fours and 5 sixes before he was dismissed by Starc.

Stokes hit 15 fours and 9 sixes as he took the claim to be called the holder of the highest individual score for England in ODI cricket.
