It was the semifinal of the 2019 ODI World Cup between India and New Zealand in Manchester. The match was affected by the rain and went to the reserve day. In the first innings, New Zealand posted a score of 221 runs. Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor helped New Zealand to reach a competitive total.
Chasing the target, the Indian chase was in tatters, as they were reduced to 5/3 by the pair of Matt Henry and Trent Boult. Further, India found itself at 92/6 and was in deep trouble. Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni were involved in a crucial 116-run partnership for the 7th wicket and revived the Indian innings.
With the required run rate going up, Jadeja went for risky shots and lost his wicket in the process. MS Dhoni tried to up the ante as well but was dismissed by a superb direct throw from Martin Guptill, which led to his eventual downfall. The image of Dhoni returning with a disappointed face still haunts the Indian fans.
