Top 10 memes after New Zealand demolishes Sri Lanka to destroy Pakistan’s chances for semi finals

New Zealand and Sri Lanka are currently battling it out at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in a must-win match for the Kiwis. A victory would take New Zealand to 10 points and boost their chances of reaching the semi-finals. Sri Lanka, already eliminated from the tournament, is playing for pride and qualification for the Champions Trophy 2025.

However, this game is of supreme importance to Pakistan as their World Cup dream hinges on New Zealand’s defeat in this crucial clash. Unfortunately for Pakistan, the first innings haven’t panned out in the way that they would have wished. New Zealand have bowled Sri Lanka out for just 171 and should win the game easily unless something dramatic happens. If that does happen, New Zealand’s net run rate, which is already superior to Pakistan’s, will go further up, realistically knocking Babar Azam and Co. out of the tournament.

Sri Lanka’s batting performance was once again underwhelming in the ongoing match. Kusal Janith Perera scored a quickfire 51 off 28 balls, but the rest of the top 5 failed to make a significant contribution, all being dismissed for single-digit scores. It was thanks to the tailenders, Maheesh Theekshana and Dilshan Madushanka, who put on a 43-run partnership for the last wicket, that Sri Lanka managed to reach 171.

Pakistan’s uphill battle: Hopes pinned on miracles and memes

New Zealand’s bowlers put on a dominant performance, with Trent Boult leading the way with figures of 3-37. Boult also achieved a major milestone, becoming the third New Zealander to take 600 international wickets. Mitchell Santner, Rachin Ravindra and Lockie Ferguson all chipped in with two wickets each, while Tim Southee took one.

Pakistan and its fans face an uphill battle to keep their hopes alive and the worst thing is that they have no control over the situation. They need nothing short of a miracle to qualify for the next round. Pakistan’s hopes of qualifying for the next round rest on Sri Lanka beating New Zealand, but that is a tall order considering Sri Lanka’s poor performance in the tournament so far. The pitch is also excellent for batting and the boundaries are extremely short, which will favour New Zealand.
