The Nellai Royal Kings and the Chepauk Super Gillies faced off in the crucial qualifier 1 encounter at the SCF Cricket Ground in Salem. These 2 teams were the most consistent sides of the competition.  Let’s look at the match report for the qualifier 1 match of Tamil Nadu Premier League between Nellai Royal Kings and Chepauk Super Gillies.

Tamil Nadu Premier League: Match 30- Nellai Royal Kings vs Chepauk Super Gillies

Chepauk Super Gillies won the toss and elected to field. The game was not a straight knockout as the losing team would still have a second chance of making it to the final. This is one of the perks of the playoff format and it serves well if a side is placed 1st or 2nd on the points table at the end of the league stage in a T20 tournament.

Nellai Royal Kings have been very good in the competition but their batting failed to come to the fore when they needed it the most. Nothing much to talk about on a batting front. Sanjay Yadav looked good for his 21 runs of 16 balls before he got out against the run of play.

A good cameo in the end by Shahjahan which was worth 25 runs and consisted of 3 sixes was the impetus that Nellai Royal Kings needed to reach a total of 140. The bowlers from the Chepauk team were bang on target with Manimaran Siddarth and Sandeep Warrier picking up 2 wickets each for 14 runs and 20 runs respectively, in their 4 over spells.

In the second innings, Chepauk Super Gillies reached the target in 19.2 overs. The foundation was laid at the top by Kaushik Gandhi, who scored 40 runs in 46 balls, which consisted of 1 four and 2 sixes. There was a rut in the middle and Chepauk lost two quick wickets.

R Sai Kishore counterattacked with 43 from just 27 balls, which had 2 fours and 4 sixes. After he was dismissed, it was left to the evergreen man from Tamil Nadu, Rajgopal Satish to bring the Chepauk Super Gillies home which he did by playing a superb knock of 31 runs off only 19 balls. Karthick Manikandan and Athisayaraj Davidson starred with the ball for Nellai Royal Kings, picking up 5 wickets between them albeit in a loosing cause.

CSG will be looking to win another TNPL title while Nellai Royal Kings will have to battle it out against Lyca Kovai Kings in the qualifier 2.
