The former Australian great, Shane Watson has said that Tim David must be added to Australia’s World Cup squad. Australia should not miss out on his talent because the big-hitting Singaporean-born batter possesses great power-hitting ability. He can also bowl and chip in with a couple of vital overs of off-spin when required.
David, who has represented his home team Singapore, had been in talks with George Bailey, who is the chairman of selectors at CA. If Tim David is eligible to play for Australia, then the big-hitting batter will change the look of the Australian middle-order and can add so much more to the side.
Tim David gave a glimpse of his batting prowess and showcased some great knocks in the Indian T20 League this year. Though Mumbai had a poor season, they found a couple of worthy and reliable players in the squad and David was one of them. In the eight games that he represented the franchise in, he managed to smash 16 sixes and 12 fours at a strike rate of 216.28.
“I hadn’t really seen much of him at all up until the IPL and seeing what he did there is something that I haven’t seen for a long time. For a young guy coming in and just dominating and just hitting the ball like I haven’t really seen in the past. So you just find a way, ” Watson was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
“I think it’s important that time will come for Tim. He’s such a valuable asset. Guys with that much power who can bowl a few overs are good in the field, they will slot into a lot of T20 sides. So I think there’s going to be opportunities there no doubt, especially with the amount of cricket that’s going to be played over the next sort of three months until that World Cup starts,” said Finch earlier.
Australia should find a way to play him in and use his services to the best of the team’s ability.
