‘Tigers were tamed by Pakistan’- Fans react as Bangladesh lose to Pakistan by seven wickets in first Super Four game of Asia Cup 2023
The first match of the Super Four Stage of the Asia Cup took place in Lahore involving Pakistan and Bangladesh. The Bangla Tigers won the toss and opted to bat first. Bangladesh got off to a shaky start as Mehidy Hasan Miraz was caught by Fakhar Zaman off Naseem Shah for a first-ball duck. Litton Das made a quickfire 16 off 13 balls with four fours. Mohammad Naim was the third wicket to fall after making 20 off 25 balls with four fours. Towhid Hirdoy was cleaned up by Haris Rauf after he made 2 off 9 balls.
At 47-4, it looked like Bangladesh were a sinking ship. But Shakib Al Hasan made 53 off 57 balls with seven fours. Shakib was caught by Zaman off Faheem Ashraf with the score at 147. Other than Mushfiqur Rahim who hit 64 off 78 balls with five fours and showed some resistance, the Bangladesh lower order succumbed to the might of the Pakistan pace attack. Shamim Hossain, Afif Hossain, Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam all had very short stays at the crease.
Haris Rauf picked up 4-19 with the ball and was the standout for Pakistan against Bangladesh
Haris Rauf picked up 4-19 in his six-over spell for the Men in Green. Naseem Shah also provided him with great support as he took 3-34 in his 5.4-over spell. Faheem and Iftikhar Ahmed took a wicket each. It was a wonderful bowling performance from Pakistan as Bangladesh were bowled out for 193 in just 38.4 overs. In the second innings, Pakistan got off to a decent start with Zaman who made 20 off 31 balls with three fours. He was dismissed lbw against the run of play by Shoriful Islam.
Inam-ul-Haq batted well at the other end and soon found his range he hit five fours and four sixes in his innings. He made 78 off 84 balls. Babar Azam was the third wicket to fall with the score at 74 when he was castled by Taskin Ahmed. Mohammad Rizwan came in at number four and hit an unbeaten 63 off 79 balls with seven fours and one six. In the end, Pakistan chased down the target easily and won by 7 wickets.
