Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman have collaborated on a number of films, including Laawaris (1981), Dostana (1980), Mahaan (1983), and Pukar (1983), to name a few. On Thursday, Zeenat wrote a lengthy Instagram post about her former co-star and discussed an event that caused her to cry while on site. Zeenat stated she accepted Amitabh Bachchan’s apology after a ‘drunk‘ unnamed director humiliated her by falsely accusing her of being late for a shoot.

Bollywood actress Zeenat Aman began her post by stating that she was sharing “The story of the only time she remembers Amitabh being late to set” because she had forgotten to wish Amitabh a happy 81st birthday on Wednesday. The seasoned actor added, “For reasons that will become clear – I’m not going to mention the name of the film we were shooting for, nor the year, nor the names of the director and producer involved.”

Secret Story of Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman:

The actress said, “We had a morning shift that day, and I hitched a ride to set with the film’s producer. As usual, I was carrying my script and practising my lines as we rode to the studio. When I got there, I walked straight to my makeup area and told the staff to let me know when Mr. Bachchan was ready for the shot by sending me a message. The ‘roll time’ for us came and went, but Mr Bachchan was nowhere to be seen. A half-hour elapsed, then 45. Before there came a knock on the door, a whole hour had passed. I was told by an AD that Mr. Bachchan had come. And that he would drive right up to the set!”

Zeenat remembered that she “leapt up immediately and made her way downstairs,” but just as she entered the set, the director “let loose a torrent of abuse” from across the room. The actress says, “He was completely catatonic, and thought I was the one who had slowed down production. As this director yelled and raged at me, the cast and crew watched in startled silence. I was unable to speak clearly, and tears of outrage welled up in my eyes. I turned around and gave the director a stern look before marching back to my cosmetics area and telling my crew to go.”

She concludes by saying, “The wonderful producer and Mr Bachchan arrived at my door even as they were zipping up my beauty kit. ‘Babs, I am aware of my error. The man is inebriated and a fool. Let it go, and then let’s start working,’ he added. Naturally, I accepted Mr Bachchan’s apology, but the unfair criticism I had endured was still stinging. Following that humiliation, I was not in the mood to shoot. The director dropped himself to my knees and begged for forgiveness when I eventually relented and consented to return to the set. Even though I finished the movie, I never worked with that director again since it was all very melodramatic.”
